Mentor Painting Project
In this assignment, the students were given almost entire freedom over where their project went. Students spent several days in the library searching through books and the internet for artists whose work inspired or had some meaningful connection with them. Once a list of artists were chosen, it was narrowed down to just a single artist. The students were to then answer a multitude of questions about their chosen artist and present their artist to the class.
For the final product of this lesson, students were asked to design a painting which related to their chosen artist in some way. This could mean they would create a painting in the artist's style, choose a subject like the artist's favored subject matter, create an image which has a similar meaning or intent as their chosen artist, and so forth. However, the connection between their own work and their artist must be easily seen and students should be able to readily defend it.
