2-D Shading Lesson
The drawing 1 were given a short mini lesson that dealt entirely with shading. After completing exercises on the different types of shading (smudging, hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling), students were to find an image with at least 5 smooth value shifts in a magazine or a newspaper. They were shown how to transfer an image using shading with their pencil on the back of the original image to make a line drawing copy of the magazine piece. Once transferred to their final paper, students were asked to choose one of the types of shading which were studied and use it to shade their line drawing so that it matches as closely as possible the value shifts in the original magazine image.
